Senior Program
The Beach School offers a comprehensive Senior School Program for students who wish to continue their studies beyond Year 10. This program is designed to support students in achieving their academic and personal goals while preparing them for further education, apprenticeships or the workforce.
Entry into the Senior Program
Entry to Year 11 (preliminary year) is not automatic after completing Year 10. Students interested in continuing must demonstrate dedication and commitment to their studies and discuss their options at Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings held throughout the year.
Tailored Support
Over the two years The Beach School staff collaborate closely with students to design a personalised learning program that aligns with their aspirations. Whether aiming for university, TAFE, apprenticeships or employment students receive guidance and resources to succeed in their chosen pathways.
Program Requirements
Success in Years 11 and 12 requires a high level of dedication. Students are expected to attend regularly, complete assigned work and actively participate in the program’s workshops and activities. These workshops cover essential life-skills and topics including:
- CPR training
- Construction White Card training
- Drug and alcohol education
- Respectful relationships
- Financial literacy (e.g. tax and money management)
- Life after school (e.g. career planning and citizenship)
Workshops are delivered by teachers and external organisations such as Relationships Australia, the Australian Tax Office (ATO), Headspace and LegalAid.
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
Students enrolled in VET courses as part of their pattern of study must achieve specific competencies to complete their training. These may include online coursework and work placements which provide hands-on experience in their field of interest.
N-Award Process
Students must meet academic requirements to remain in the senior program. If a student does not complete required work or fails to meet course outcomes they may receive an 'N-Award Warning'. This process ensures students are given clear guidance on how to address any issues. For detailed information refer to the Parents and Carers N-Award Warnings Explained document.
At The Beach School the Senior Program emphasises commitment, tailored support and life-readiness equipping students with the skills and knowledge to achieve their goals.
